Now for the tutorial...this is what we will be making!
The Amaryllis
I did use the jpeg optimizer for faster loading, so the images do look a bit weird, sorry.

It is assumed that you have a good working knowledge of Paint Shop Pro.
This tutorial uses vector shapes.
I made this in PSP X, but I am sure it can be done in all other versions too.

  • PSP X      download a free trial version.....and I'm sure you will have lots of fun.

    The tools I used:

Preset Shapes   Pen Tool   Airbrush   Smudge Tool

Let's try to make the Amaryllis!......I hope you will enjoy!
Open up a transparent image size around 550 x 700  16 million colours (24 bit).
I know it's a bit large, I need a lot of space...LOL, make it smaller if you like.
Don't forget to save as you go along.

*note* I did save it as a preset shape first....before promoting to layers.
Make all parts on a separate layer and name them too,
so then you will know what it is *s*.

Color pallet I used, but feel free to use any color you like.

Add a new Vector Layer
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse,
foreground set to null, background #8d2325.
This will be petal 1 of the front flower, and edit the nodes as shown.
We will be making 6 front flower petals using the same settings.
Second front flower petal
Third front flower petal
Forth front flower petal
Fifth front flower petal
Sixth front flower petal
When you are done with the sixth petal,
hold down the shift button on your keyboard,
and select all the front flower petal layers,
rightclick with your mouse, and choose group. Save!
Now onto the back flower petals.
Use the same settings, only change the color into orange/red, I used #ab441b.
We will be making 8 back flower petals.
Drag these layers below the front flower petals.
Second back flower petal
Third back flower petal
Forth back flower petal
Fifth back flower petal
Sixth back flower petal
Seventh back flower petal
Eighth back flower petal
Group these layers also as you did before. Save!
This is what we have so far.
We are going to make the leaves.
Use the same settings, only change the color into #56705c.
Drag these layers below the flower petals.
Second leave.
Third leave.
Change the color into #626c49.
Now onto the stem.
Using the Pen Tool, set the foreground color into #a38b1b,
background color set to null, line width around 40,
select the nodes and set them to symmetric.
On the top of the stem.
Using the preset shapes, ellipse same color as the stem,
shape as shown.
Second top of the stem.
Rightclick with the mouse, on the top of the stem layer,
choose copy, and paste as vector selection.
Drag the left node to the right, and place it as shown.
All vectors are done.
This is how it looks.
Take a break, and when you are up to it, we will go to the next page!!
