Now for the tutorial...this is what we will be making!
Mom's little Angel

My daughter gave me this cute angel some years ago, and I have it on my desk,
now I thought it would be fun to vector...lolol....I love vectors....sorry!!

It is assumed that you have a good working knowledge of Paint Shop Pro.
This tutorial uses vector shapes.
I made this in PSP 13, but it can be done in all other versions too.

  • PSP 13      download a trial version.....and I'm sure you will have lots of fun.

    The tools I used:

    Preset Shapes   Pen tool

Open up a transparent image size around 600 x 800  16 million colours (24 bit).
Don't forget to save as you go along.

I used this skin color for Head - Hands - Feet #f9e0cd
I am not giving more colors, cause I thought it would be great if you use any color you like.

Add a new Vector Layer-Head
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse,
foreground set to null, background skin color.
Draw the ellipse, and make it an egg shape.
The bottom of the headshape should be placed halfway on your canvas.
Add a new Vector Layer-Dress
Click on the Preset Shapes set to Rectangle,
foreground set to null, background any color or pattern you like.
Draw the rectangle, and shape as shown.
*note*You can add nodes by holding down the CTRL key and left mouse button,
you will see ADD.
Don't worry to much about the shape, as you won't see that much of it.
When you are done, drag the layer beneath the head layer.
Add a new Vector Layer-Ears
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse,
foreground set to null, background the skin color.
Draw the ellipse, and shape as shown.
Rightclick on the layer and choose Copy from the layer-menu.
Rightclick again and choose Paste New Vector Selection
and place on the other side of the head.
*note* I did group the Ear layers, hold down the shift key,
and select the 2 layers, rightclick and choose group from the menu.
Drag the grouped layer beneath the head layer.
Add a new Vector Layer-Feet
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse,
foreground set to null, background the skin color.
Draw the ellipse, and shape as shown.
When done, do the same as with the ears,
by using copy and paste from the layer menu.
*note* I did group the Feet layers, hold down the shift key,
and select the 2 layers, rightclick and choose group from the menu.
Add a new Vector Layer-Hands
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse,
foreground set to null, background the skin color.
Draw the ellipse, and shape as shown.
*note*You can add nodes by holding down the CTRL key and left mouse button,
you will see ADD, then rightclick and choose Cusp for the node type.
When done, do the same as with the ears and feet,
by using copy and paste from the layer menu.
*note* I did group the Hand layers, hold down the shift key,
and select the 2 layers, rightclick and choose group from the menu.
Add a new Vector Layer-Nose
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse, foreground set to a slightly darker skin color,
line width 2 or 3, background the skin color.
Draw the ellipse, and shape as shown.
I did darken it a bit so you could see it a little better.
Add a new Vector Layer-Flowershape
Click on the Preset Shapes set to Flowershape 5, foreground set to any color you like,
background also any color you like. Draw the flowershape.
*note* You can use any flowershape, as long as you can add enough text
in the center of the flower.
Make sure this Layer is beneath the feet and hands layers.

Add a new Vector Layer-Face
Hide the Flowershape, by clicking on the Eye leftside of the layer,
so then you can see the shape of the face better.
Click on the Pentool set to Lines and Polylines,
foreground set to black, background set to null.
Line width 2 or 3. Draw a line, click on the nodes and set it to Symmetric,
and make the shape for the mouth.
Make 2 lines for the mouth corners, and 2 more lines for the eyebrows.
Group all these line layers.
Add a new Vector Layer-Eyes
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse,
foreground set to null, background color black.
Draw the ellipse, and shape as shown.
Copy and paste the second eye, and group these layers.
Add a new Vector Layer-Bow
Click on the Preset Shapes set to teardrop,
foreground set to any color you like, background any color you like.
Line width 2 or 3. Draw the teardrop, and shape as shown.
Copy and paste for the other side of the bow.
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse for the bow-knot.
Group these layers.

Add a new Vector Layer-Halo
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse,
foreground set to any gold color or gradient, background set to null.
Line width 3 or 4. Draw the ellipse, and shape as shown.
Click on the pentool set to Lines and Polylines, same fore and backround settings,
draw a straight line. Group these layers and drag the grouped layer beneath the head layer.
Add a new Vector Layer-Wings
Click on the Preset Shapes set to ellipse,
foreground set to null, background to any gold color or gradient.
Draw the ellipse, and shape as shown.
*note*You can add nodes by holding down the CTRL key and left mouse button,
you will see ADD, then rightclick and choose Cusp for the node type.
Copy and paste for the second wing. Group the 2 layers.
Drag the grouped layer beneath the head layer.

All vectors are done....lolol
The finishing touch
At this point you can group all the layers by rightclicking on a layer,
and choose Select All from the menu,
then rightclick again and choose Group from the menu.
(it will include the grouped layers also) Rename the grouped layer.
You can export as a shape, from the file menu choose Export then Shape.
Now you can convert the layers one by one.

For the finishing touch, I would like to say, do as you like best, and get creative.
You can Airbrush, or use Cutout or even Bevel.

Add text in the center of the flower....and you are all done!!
Anyway I hope you did enjoy this tutorial!!!
